Welcome to my blog! Hi everyone!  This is the place where I post my latest weddings, shoots and travel details.  If you want to see what I am doing, this is the place to be.
This past Friday started off our three-wedding weekend with Jamie and Melyssa getting ready at the Crown Plaza Hotel (formerly the Sheraton Ferncroft) in Danvers. Melyssa got her hair and makeup done here, and her bridesmaids got dressed, but she waited to put her dress on until we arrived at Topsfield Commons for the ceremony and reception.

Down the hall, Jamie was a sharp contrast to the calm and collected Melyssa. An energetic person already, Jamie was so excited to get married that he was practically bouncing off the walls! He was documenting everything on his new iPhone too, and even used an app to make sure he got his double windsor knot just right.

The ceremony and the reception took place in the same beautiful room at the Commons of Topsfield. It was a quick ceremony officiated by Melyssa's cousin, in which Jamie and Melyssa poured separate bottles of black and white sand into the same container to symbolize that they are now one together. Then the chairs were cleared away and tables brought in for the real fun to start!

Melyssa has been a dancer all her life, and we soon learned that Jamie and the rest of their guests loved to get down on the dance floor too! Melyssa and her dad set the tone of the night when the began their dance together to a traditional slow song, only to break into a "remix" halfway through and preform a dance choreographed by Melyssa! It was awesome and definitely set a fun precedent for the rest of the night! There wasn't a time when everyone was dancing - there was always a circle in which guests were having a dance off. Everyone was having a blast and could tell by how much fun Jamie and Melyssa had with each other that they were perfect for one another.

But enough talking about it! See the night for yourselves in some of our favorite shots below:

Joe your pictures are amazing - I couldn't even look at all of them at first because I was overcome with emotion the first time. Being the usual Father of the Bride I was looking to cut cost everywhere and I thought lets just get anybody to do the pics on the cheap. Jamie and Melyssa found you and what a find - I have been a craftsman and artisan my whole life and an artist every once in a while. I work on priceless items and I know quality and your work is classic. You did in the pics what a great artist does, you not only captured the images but somehow you captured the emotion of a fleeting moment. A moment that we would have otherwise only had in our memories without your great work. I was talking to Melyssa about how happy I was with the pics and she said "Dad when you think about the album is all we have from the wedding for the rest of our lives". That says it all and I repeated that to a few other brides a few days later and they said the same thing word for word. Joe, thank you so much for the work you did, I knew I was going to like you when you started to roll around on the grass and do yoge poses to get the right shot. The only down side to this whole thing is that I only saw a dozen photos I can't imagine seeing all of them. Thanks again John Misci

Saturday was a first for me, my first chance to photograph a same sex men's wedding.  I excited to say that it rocked!

Jim and Cary planned a perfect small town New England style wedding in their town at the Philips Exeter Academy.  They celebrated their love with their closest family and friends.  The ceremony was held at the campus's church.  It was a moving ceremony with family and friends singing some great songs, even some music from Il Divo.  It was great and I love it when I am surrounded by such good music and people who love each other.

The reception was a cocktail style party with a lovely cake by confectionArt in York Maine, made of buttercream frosting topped with chocolate sculptures of Jim and Cary.  As the day went on and got hotter, the chocolate did too and sometime while we were out doing photos, the little sculptures tumbled off and onto the floor.  They were rescued and reset on the cake, but not without first sustaining some injuries.

Well enough of my chit chat, here are some pics!

Like the little chocolate men, I had a severely broken ankle that kept me home-bound, away from the wedding. I got tears in my eyes looking at these photos! You really captured their love for each other and the joy of their celebration. Well done!

This weekend I am shooting what will be a incredible wedding in Las Vegas with Kelly and Ken at the Mandarin Oriental and Bellagio Hotels.

At the moment I am sitting here at the Jet Blue terminal at Logan Airport watching my plane, "breath of fresh Blue" pull into the boarding zone.  There are a good hundred plus people around me all waiting for the 7:30 boarding call for our flight.  I just thought I would share a few of my thoughts on flying and shooting.

I spend the day checking my gear, packing and then double checking.  I got a hair cut, some new rolls of film and ran a number of errands around town. Checking into the flight was pretty simple, as well checking my lighting bag, no fee at at all, thanks jet blue!

I made sure that TSA hand inspected my film so that no fogging occurs.  Now I wait.  I wait to get on my flight, watch the little TV that will keep me going for the five hour flight to Vegas.  My biggest decisions in the next few hours will be what channels do I want to watch, soda or wine, chips or cookies and nap or stay awake.  Not bad right?

I think one day I should see if I can commissioned to just photograph people at the airport waiting.  I think the airport shows a good cross reference of the US, and people.  At least on Jet Blue.  Rich, poor, young, old, Indian, Italian, everyone sits together and waits for their flight.

Cheers!

I will post some shots from the wedding saturday Sunday if I can!

So after a great engagement shoot with Kathleen an Jared tonight, we all sat down for a awesome dinner that the they had cooked for Riley and me.  Over wine and dinner the main conversation was over video game systems and movies. After a while I tossed out the idea of Jared and Katelyn having a NES setup with powergloves and super mario brothers three hooked up to a projector so guest could play during cocktail or later in the evening at the reception.  Just like in the 1989 film, Wizard, I thought it would be incredible.

Katelyn then asked me if I had seen the Mario wedding cake, which I had not.  Now after seeing it, I really hope they decided to have their wedding be NES themes and have a totally awesome cake like this.  Its only fitting :)

This cake was created by BETH at Let them eat Cake.  I don't know who took the photos, but its such a rad cake.

I would say you could make each table at the wedding a different NES game, so guest could be at the Zelda table, or Top Gun Table, it would be such a rad reception.  Maybe even a few Mario songs or themes tossed in here and there.

Just an idea :)

Don't you just love the summer, small towns, and 4th of july parades? I do.  I love traveling to small towns on the 4th of July to see all the festive activities and american fare that is all around.

With that said, I think going for the 4th of July look at a wedding could be very fun!  Doing this could be very simple.  You could collect stuff from your friends and family to be used at your wedding, or you could go one step even better.

Make a road trip with your fiance and go from antique store, to flea market and look for all that is american vintage.  Driving the this past weekend I saw a ton of antique dealers and little town markets that looked like they would be so fun to pick through.  What's junk to others could be a great centerpiece or room decor.  So out of this you could get some great looks for your wedding and some great quality time with your love!

Cheers!
